Welcome to Cubby's Restaurant!--------------
My mother and I run a restaurant business together. It's called Cubby's, located in Auburn, Washington. We sell a random variety of food: burgers, fish& chips, teriyaki, chinese wok items, etc.. We've been here for about 11 years now. I've had loads of great memories and moments here. But I hate that I don't get paid here.. I get some green here and there for gas or bills, but acual spending money is very minimal. I don't mind too much because my mother is my blood, the woman that gave me life and was there for me and my sisters 24/7 after our dad walked out on us. And it's not like she doesn't WANT to pay me (you would think, because Koreans tend to be extremely stingy when it comes to money), but the main reason being that the business is VERYYY slow. She can barely afford to pay the bills to keep the business open! She's an amazing woman that worked everyday of her life since she was a kid. I think she's taken maybe 10 days off (excluding x-mas & Thanksgiving) in the last 11 years here!
Some people just don't understand our situation. We work everyday, all day, and still don't have money to go shopping for ourselves or take vacays. So if I say I don't bring you a present for your birthday or I can't come out to play, believe me when I say I am flat broke like a joke.
A little history on this place (my resources come from the many customers that have been coming here since they were kids and their grandparents were kids). This business has been here for over 60 years! The name hasn't changed, but over the course of time, the ownership has. I've heard stories about how this area was nothing, but dirt and a fire station across the street. ALL the kids would come here after school, the parking lot would be packed with Harley's and old school mobiles, a car actually accidently drove into the building, and we have the best burgers in town, which is my family's of family's for generations have been coming here. ;0) It's really sweet and I love hearing these stories.
ANYhoos-- In this section of my blog, you will probably read about me complaining about rude customers, or how interesting some of my regulars are, or whatever I feel is memorable enough for me to actually type up. A LOT goes on over here. I guess I'll take the time to share a few things that you might find interesting.
- SIR MIX-A-LOT. Aka Anthony Ray is a regular here! Of course, it shouldn't be THAT big of a surprise because most people know he resides here in Seattle, Washington. He always orders the spicy chicken teriyaki, he's ALWAYS on his phone, rude, and never tips.
- BLANKETS. As I've said before, we are Korean. And if you haven't noticed before, Koreans tend to sell the most random things in their area of business.. LOL! One of these past winters, my mom displayed and sold those thick asian mink blankets. In OUR restaurant! RANDOM! But surprisingly, we sold a ton, and after we were out, months later, people were still coming here with, "I know this is weird, but a friend of mine told me you guys sold blankets here, do you still have any?" Sadly, we were out.
- COMBS. Another random item we actually still sell today is combs! Yes, COMBS. It's near the side of the counter. Weird? Yes. But what's even weirder is that people actually buy it! HAHA! The quality sucks and I still feel it's overpriced, but my mom somehow got a big box of 'em and this was her way of getting rid of 'em. As P says, "Would you like a comb with your burger?"
- BLACK MAN VS. ASIAN LADY. I've only seen this kind of incidents on youtube, but one day I was there to witness the confrontation with my own two chinky eyes. Basically what happened was, a black man (in his 20's?) comes in demanding that he get free shit. Who the hell does that!?? Anyways, of course, my mom told him no, and he went ballistic! He was yelling racist comments and saying that he used to own a business himself so he knows how it works. Surprsingly, I didn't hear my mother say even one racist comment back, but she did yell, "FOCK YOU!" I'm pretty sure the girl he was with was completely embarassed. She didn't say a word and just went back into the car. Ugh. If my friend was acting a fool, I would knock some sense into them, acting like nothing happened will not be tolerated.
- THE "S" LADY. She's so adorable! She's very sweet, but I can't help but giggle when she orders her food. She prolongs her S's. "Can I get a cubby burger with cheesssssse, and order of friesssssssss, and fry sauccccce?" We call her the "S" lady. :0) Not making fun, we actually adore her.
Honestly, I could make a huge list of all the things I've experienced here, but let's not dwell on the past! Haha, moving forward. I will update on more recent activities once it's happened.
